Wireless dash cams are a popular solution to many of our fleet’s safety problems, which is why so many fleets are using them worldwide. There’s a lot to know about dash cams, and before you invest in one, you should learn everything you can about them. We’ve written extensively on dash cams, so in this article, we will bring that information together to create a comprehensive guide to help you better understand this technology.
How Does a Wireless Dash Cam Work?
A dash cam is exactly what it sounds like–a camera on your dash! All dash cams record the road in front of you, but some also record what’s happening in the cab. They are typically easy to install — simply adhere them to the windshield or rearview mirror. They can also be installed with hardware. Once installed, it should not hinder your visibility, as they are under 3 inches. Most provide a 150° view in front and record between 720p and 1080p, so you have a clear view of any incidents that occur. They usually begin recording as soon as the ignition is turned on.
What is an AI Dash Cam?
An AI dash cam uses artificial intelligence to detect behaviors that may indicate distracted driving. Your AI dash cam can sense distractions such as:
- Eating and Drinking
- Using Phone
- Smoking
- Yawning / Fatigue
- Face not visible
- Not Focused
It will send you an alert when it detects these behaviors so you can reach out to your drivers and ensure everything is in order.
