With the upcoming deadline for FMCSA HOS/DVIR reporting, Azuga has created a series of checklists to help you ensure a smooth transition from paper logs to e-logs. We’ve covered steps for prepping your vehicles and getting drivers ready. This week’s blog focuses on getting fleet managers and administrators ready.
ELD Prep Checklist 3: FLEET MANAGERS AND ADMINISTRATORS
- Schedule training sessions for administrators verifying HOS and creating reports
- Work with your ELD provider to schedule report delivery in advance of when you’ll need to use the reports
- Make sure office staff and drivers know the steps to take to ensure continuity of reporting in case of any issues with the solution
The back office team will save long hours that are usually lost in creating IFTA reports, and spend that time more usefully. ELDs will also pinpoint the risky drivers who need the manager’s attention. Tracking will give them a better handle on idling, and they can bring down fuel wastage in their fleet on this account. Fleet managers spend less time on the phone with drivers and can respond to shippers by looking at real-time GPS tracking information from the web dashboard.
The ELD mandate makes it compulsory for your fleet to retain RODS data of the last 6 months, and with due regard for driver privacy. You have to ensure the backup of these records is on a device other than where you store the original records. These requirements come into force beginning Dec.18, 2017.
